- The meeting called to order at 6:40 p.m.,
- A quorum of officers was present
- Pledge of Allegiance led by Barbara Sliger
- Corrections, additions to the minutes of the previous meeting.
There were no additions or corrections to the minutes. Moved and seconded to approve the minutes as distributed; passed unanimously. It was noted there were no minutes from the January meeting as a quorum was not present so only informal discussions were held.
- Treasurers Report – Johann Von Flue stated there was some $4222.30, end of November. An updated report will be available at the next meeting.
- Monument Committee Report – It was reported that the contest is well underway and that a public viewing/voting would be held on Feb. 20 from 1-4 p.m. at Covington Park. Also, photos are being taken and a ballot being produced to put on the www 92256 com website. Local residents would download the ballot and send it in by Friday, Feb. 18.
- Publicity Chair Report – Tim Parrott noted the Chamber continues to receive more positive mention in the local media.
- Bruce Davis/County Report – Linda Bailey reported the following:
- Linda Bailey thanked the Rotstein’s for their advertisement in the HD Star Program.
- Davis can come to a daytime meeting on Feb. 23, agreed to promote to the membership.
- Power Poles – Davis indicated that eventually, the power pole move will allow the existing lanes to be reconfigured to mark a lane for trucks that move slowly up the Yucca grade
- Community Plan – the results of the meetings and ideas will come back to the communities sometime later this month.
- Dreyfus – no particular word on the potential development of the 40-acre parcel on Hess by Lorin Dreyfus.
- Code Enforcement – the basic issues involve tires, trash and abandoned vehicles. For all, residents need to call Code Enforcement at: 228-5430. Mike Romage is the new Code Enforcement officer for the area. More details can be found on the County of San Bernardino Website.
- Rule 20-A – Linda will follow up with Davis regarding Rule 20-A which works toward putting power lines underground.
- Feb. All Chamber Mixer – Leslie Rotstein announced there is an all high desert chamber mixer on Feb.15 at Copper Mountain Community College in Joshua Tree. She said it would be great to have a good representation from our Chamber at the affair. More details will be provided.
- Earth Day – Morongo Basin Events – Leslie Rotstein announced that the various towns in the High Desert would be putting on events on Earth Day, Saturday, April 23. There was a general discussion regarding whether or not the Chamber should put on some sort of event. Ultimately, it was moved, seconded and approved unanimously to have some sort of event. The Chamber’s Executive Committee will act as the organizing committee for the event.
Jeannie May from the Trail Riders Assn. said the group is having a Western Days celebration on May 14 and 15. Also, the group is having a Chili Day on April 9. She agreed to talk to her board about the potential to participate in the Earth Day event.
- Clean Team Report – Linda Bailey indicated the January event had been cancelled due to rain. The next attempt would be on Saturday, February 5 from 7 to 9 a.m., meeting at the Happy Cooker.
Linda Bailey also mentioned that she had been researching a Tire Amnesty day, where residents could bring tires for recycling to a central location. There was a general discussion about the concept and it was agreed to add the recycling program to the Earth Day event.
Linda Bailey indicated there are two segments of Highway 62 which are available through the Adopt-a-Highway program. She will approach the Trail Rider’s about potentially taking over one of the sections.
- New Agenda Items
- Fire Safe Council – Richard Brewer reported that the council’s grants had run out and they were in the process of applying for new ones. It was agreed that the Chamber would send letters to members asking for donations to help out the FSC.
- All Valley Garage Sale – Caroline Von Flue asked for the Chamber’s support for another All Valley Garage Sale. It was requested that she bring a formal proposal to the Executive Committee for discussion at the next meeting.
- By-Laws – There was a general discussion about the necessary quorum for general meetings. It was pointed out that IF a quorum is not present a meeting can still be held and any votes ratified by the membership by mail or phone ballot or at the next meeting.
- Meeting Schedule – It was agreed to review the current meeting schedule. Tim Parrott will look at the various community calendars and make a recommendation to the Executive Committee at a future meeting
- Adjournment – The meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:45 p.m.
