JUNE FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT
The Fire Department responded to a total of 36 calls in the month of April: 1 Outside Investigation; 22 Medical Aids; 1 Public Service; 1 Smoke Check; 1 Water Salvage; 4 Traffic Collisions; 2 Vehicle Fire; 1 Residential Structure Fire; 1 Commercial Structure Fire; 1 Hazardous Gas; 1 Refuse Fire; 1 Miscellaneous. The Fire Department has been very busy the past few months. May statistics will include several, recent vegetation fires, that had the potential to threaten homes but were surrounded and extinguished before any structural damage occurred. This year’s prolific wildflower and grass bloom dried to produce flashy fuel conditions. Please be sure to follow the California State Resource Code and maintain 100” defensible space around structures. Fire-wise landscaping does not necessitate clear cutting property to remove all vegetation. The goal of defensible space regulations is to break up the horizontal and vertical continuity of the available combustible fuels. See ww.fire.ca.gov for complete information regarding allowable shrub heights, spacing recommendations and pruning guidelines.

PARKS REPORT
A special thanks to Tony Canales for the numerous hours he volunteered to help rebuild the ball field sprinkler system. The Morongo Valley Youth Sports League announces Opening Night of the Youth Softball League will be June 24. Call MVYSL Secretary, Zola Patino 309-2590 to sign up or volunteer.

Children's Library
The Morongo Valley Children's Library is seeking funds to enhance the science and nature reference section. Librarian Cheryl Jordan hosts Storytelling Hour every Saturday morning at 10:00 with guest storytellers. "Miss Cheryl" and assistant, Kathy Lahti do a peerless job expanding the programming offered to our children. Thursday afternoons feature art and theater instruction led by experienced, volunteer instructors. Who knows what quality program Cheryl will envision to complement the new science and nature books!
